Okay… this is something I never expected to say.
Riot Games is letting us play League of Legends with a controller — and it actually uses WASD-style movement.
Yeah. No more constant clicking.
You move your champion like you would in a shooter.
Honestly? That’s kind of insane.
So how does it actually work?
The layout is pretty clean and makes sense once you look at it:
New Controller Gameplay in League of Legends!
Settings used in video:
- LT → Q
- LB → W
- RB → E
- RT → R
- X → D (Summoner Spell)
- Y → F (Summoner Spell)
- A → Auto Attack
- D-Pad Down → Trinket
- Analog stick → Movement (replaces the mouse)
👉 Basically, the analog stick becomes your cursor, and movement feels way more direct compared to classic click-to-move.
What does this change for us?
This could seriously shake things up:
- It’s way easier for new players to get into the game
- Movement might feel faster and smoother in fights
- But it also changes mechanics we’ve been used to for years
Let’s be real though — for anyone who’s been playing on mouse and keyboard for years,
this will feel weird at first.
And I’m not even sure how this would hold up in ranked or high elo.
Why is Riot doing this?
If you look at it from Riot’s perspective, it actually makes sense:
- pushing the game closer to console-friendly gameplay
- making it more accessible to a wider audience
- testing if LoL can evolve beyond the classic controls
And honestly, it feels like they’re experimenting with something bigger here.
Is this the future of League?
Hard to say..
This could either:
- end up as a fun side option and real alternative way to play.
- or slowly turn into a complete disaster.
But one thing is clear —
this is one of the biggest gameplay changes we’ve seen in years and League of Legends may never feel the same again.
💬 What do you think?
Would you actually try playing League on a controller/WSAD?
Or is this something that just doesn’t belong in MOBA games like LoL?
