Leviathan

If you’ve been around League of Legends long enough, you probably remember the full trio: Mejai’s, Sword of the Occult… and Leviathan. The “tank version” of stacking items.

Leviathan worked the same way, you got stacks for kills and assists, lost them on death, and the more you had, the stronger you became. But instead of damage, it gave you a stupid amount of health. And later on, at max stacks, it even gave you 15% damage reduction.

That’s where it got dumb.

Because once a tank got stacked Leviathan, they didn’t just get tanky, they became almost unkillable. You weren’t dealing with someone you could slowly burn down. You were dealing with a champ that could walk into your team, take all damage, and just not die.

Champs that could safely stack it were the biggest problem. Think stuff like junglers or tanks with easy engages, they’d pick up a few early kills or assists, stack it up, and suddenly the game felt completely different. You couldn’t punish them anymore.

Leviathan Stats

  • Cost: 1275 gold
  • Base Stats: +180 Health
  • Passive: Gain +32 Health per stack
  • Stacks: +2 stacks per kill, +1 stack per assist
  • Max Stacks: 20
  • Death Penalty: Lose half your stacks on death
  • Max Stack Bonus: At 20 stacks, gain 15% damage reduction

At max stacks: Leviathan granted up to +640 bonus Health from stacks, plus its base +180 Health, for a total of +820 Health and 15% reduced damage taken.

And just like the other stacking items, it had that same issue, it snowballed way too hard. If you were behind, the item was useless. But if you were ahead, it pushed you even further to the point where the enemy team just couldn’t deal with you.

The worst feeling was when someone hit max stacks and got that damage reduction. At that point, it didn’t matter how fed your team was, killing them took forever, and by then the fight was already lost.

Same story as always, fun item if you had it, terrible if you didn’t.

No surprise Riot Games removed it along with the rest. Too snowbally, too inconsistent, and just not healthy for the game.
